I Have What I Need

Jehovah-Jireh –“The Lord Will Provide”

Psalm 23 has been labeled as “The Pearl of the Psalms” and I contend to agree with the label it has received. Like sifting through the jewels of a treasure chest, we find jewels at various sizes and degrees of value, but all offer a beautiful picture of Christ and His work. Before you continue to read this post, I urge you to read this series in the order I have written them. Begin with the entry, Who Is The Lord. After reflecting on who the Lord is, then read, The Lord Is My Shepherd-Jehovah-Rohi. Resting under our Shepherd’s care we realize that we have what we need.

Needs Not Greeds

David is speaking as a contented lamb that is satisfied with his shepherd. How has the Lord provided for you? God can care for all your needs. Most of the time, we can’t distinguish a need from a desire. God will supply all you need, not all your greed, not hopes, dreams, and aspirations, but all your needs. We often think of God as some cosmic vending machine. That if we put in a certain amount of prayer time here, read your Bible there, and give your money to the poor that God will release the answer to your prayers. God is not a vending machine for us to manipulate, but the

True To His Nature

Almighty God that spoke everything into existence-hung the planets in place. This same God tells us that He loves us and cares for us so much so that He took on human flesh to live the life we were supposed to live and die the death all were condemned to die. He is faithful to provide for our needs because it is His very nature.

At God’s Disposal

God doesn’t disappoint when it comes to the creative ways He uses to show off His divine power. God used a spider to protect Robert the Bruce of Scotland as he was fleeing persecution. As he was running for his very life, he stumbled across a small cave. He climbed in, and within moments a spider began spinning a web over the entrance of the cave. After a while, two of his persecutors came near to where he was hiding; they concluded that the unbroken spider web was proof enough that he was not hiding in the cave. As the men passed by, Robert the Bruce prayed, “O God, I thank Thee that in the tiny bowels of a spider, you can place for me a shelter.”

This short story and many others show us that all of creation exists under God’s Sovereign rule. Even a small spider is at His disposal when it comes to caring for His most prized creation-mankind.

Genesis 22

Remember what happened with Abraham and Isaac on the mountain? Jehovah-Jireh provided a ram for Abraham to sacrifice instead of Isaac. God’s provision of the ram demonstrated the truth that God provides the right things. When we need because He knows what our needs are. God also provides for us in the right places. He provided the ram at the top of the mountain where Abraham and Isaac were. The need was met. Abraham trusted God so deeply that even if God didn’t provide an animal to sacrifice, God would raise Isaac back to life. Do you have that kind of faith and trust in the Lord? Do you believe He will provide a way when there seems like there is no way? I believe that sometimes we miss out on God’s blessings because we are not where we should be to receive them.

Still On Time.

How many people miss out on God’s blessings because they are absent from corporate gatherings of worship? This real-life account of Abraham and Isaac demonstrates that God always provides the precise things, at the exact place, and the specific time we need Him. We might be late, but God is still on time. He is Jehovah. The God of the past, the present, and the future. He is always the same. At this moment, He is Jehovah-Jireh, the Lord who provides.

Lord, I pray that I would look to you as my provider. I realize that you might not give me what I ask for, but instead, you will supply me with what I need. Help me to believe you are all I need.
