Holy on Purpose: Choosing Purity, Love, and Obedience Daily
Be Holy, Because I Am Holy
“But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: ‘Be holy, because I am holy.’”
—1 Peter 1:15-16
“Be holy.”
That sounds like a massive expectation, doesn’t it?
As parents and ministry leaders, we know how messy life can be—tantrums, busy schedules, and spiritual dry spells. So, how can we really be holy?
Let’s start with the good news: Holiness isn’t perfection. It’s being set apart—different, distinct, and dedicated to God. Like clean water in a muddy stream, God is calling us to stand out—not just for the sake of being different, but to reflect Him.
Holiness is about letting God’s purity shape our thoughts, actions, and words. And He doesn’t ask us to do this in our own strength. He empowers us through the Holy Spirit.
3 Ways to Reflect God’s Holiness Daily
- Choose What’s Right (Even When It’s Hard)
Kids are watching. Whether you’re at work, church, or in your home, the small decisions you make matter. Do you gossip or speak life? Do you cut corners or choose integrity? Being holy means consistently choosing obedience over convenience. - Guard What You Feed Your Mind
1 Peter 1:13 says, “Prepare your minds for action, be sober-minded…”
What we watch, listen to, and allow into our minds influences our hearts. Just like we wouldn’t drink muddy water, we should avoid things that cloud our judgment. These things can also corrupt our thinking. Guard your heart by guarding your media intake. Encourage your kids or ministry team to do the same. - Reflect God’s Love in Every Relationship
Holiness shows up in kindness, forgiveness, patience, and how we treat others—especially when it’s inconvenient. God is love, and when we reflect that love, we reflect His holiness.
Action Point This Week
Choose one way to pursue holiness each day.
- Monday: Start your day with prayer.
- Tuesday: Speak life over your kids or students.
- Wednesday: Say no to a show or song that doesn’t glorify God.
- Thursday: Help someone without expecting anything in return.
- Friday: End your week by journaling what God taught you.
REFLECT & RESPOND
“Therefore, with your minds ready for action, be sober-minded and set your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you…”
—1 Peter 1:13
Ask yourself and your kids/students:
- What does it mean to be holy?
- What does it look like to be sober-minded in today’s world?
- How is God inviting you to reflect His holiness this week?
Pray Together:
“God, thank You for calling us to be holy as You are holy. We admit that on our own, we fall short. But You’ve given us Your Spirit, Your Word, and Your love. Help us to make choices that honor You. Guard our minds from what pollutes. Let us reflect Your holiness to our kids, friends, and the world. Amen.”
Final Thought
Being holy isn’t about being flawless—it’s about being faithful. Let’s be leaders and parents who live set apart. Let’s choose obedience, purity, and love. And let’s never forget: We don’t pursue holiness to earn God’s love—we live holy because we already have it.
